Assessment of the Impact of Sedentary Behavior on the Health of IT Sector Employees in Pune City
摘要
Sedentary behavior, wherein one sits for much longer periods during the day with fewer numbers of active behavior, has emerged as one of the major risks to health factors in today’s working world of the Information Technology industry. The research paper will look at assessing health hazards of sedentary behavior among workers of IT in Pune City and make recommendations for minimizing risks. Data analysis from 120 IT employees is utilized in order to reflect on the interrelationship of variables by factor analysis and Spearman’s correlation in relation to a potential link between extended periods of sitting and health outcomes such as musculoskeletal pain, stress, and mental fatigue. The analysis yields an ability of Workplace Ergonomic Injuries to account for 39.643% of the explained variance; herein, tight issues that incorporated neck and shoulder pain correlations were at high hours of sitting time. Mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, and burnout also manage to show moderate positive correlations between sitting time and these factors. Interestingly, the association between sedentary behavior with cardiovascular risk factors, such as coronary heart disease, was not significant at the short-term follow-up. The authors have also examined a few strategies which workers reported adopting to minimize sedentary behavior including fitness trackers (34.2%), walking meetings (27.5%), and standing desks (20%). These findings emphasize the need for holistic workplace interventions designed to counteract. Other aspects include reduction of sedentary time, improvement of work conditions regarding ergonomics, and general well-being.
