Climate change is manifesting globally in the form of altered weather patterns, significantly impacting livestock production. Scientific consensus confirms that climate change, driven by increased human activities, has severe social and economic repercussions. Greenhouse gases (GHGs) trap solar heat, leading to observed climatic shift, particularly heat stress and drought, affecting both humans and animals. These changes have resulted in substantial economic losses for poor and marginal farmers due to decreased livestock productivity. Droughts, characterized by prolonged low precipitation and high temperatures, lead to reduced forage availability, compromised animal health, and decreased production efficiency. The Indian subcontinent, highly susceptible to droughts, experience frequent agricultural water scarcity, impacting livestock growth, reproduction, and survival. Effecting drought mitigation strategies focuses on optimizing resource use, ensuring livestock survival, and minimizing productivity losses. This includes improved housing, feeding, and health management practices tailored to sustain livestock in drought-prone regions. Addressing both immediate relief and long-term prevention measures is essential for mitigating the adverse impacts of drought on livestock and farming communities.
