Fundamental and typical measurement methods for magnetic properties of magnetic materials applied to Motor Drive Systems are briefly described. These measurement methods are specified in International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards and Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). Measurement traceability and reproducibility should be important issues. The shape of test specimens and magnetic circuit for the measurement including test specimens are also important. The digital processing of signal has been widely used and new measurement methods will be developed from the research of new phenomena in magnetic materials.
