In recent years, the decreasing cost of photovoltaic (PV) systems have motivated many traditional energy consumers to become prosumers, significantly promoting energy sharing within communities. Despite this progress, communities still face challenges in fully utilizing surplus energy due to the mismatch between local demand and intermittent PV generation. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have been recognized as a promising solution to address this issue. This study investigates two distinct BESS sharing structures—centralized shared BESS and distributed shared BESS—within an energy-sharing framework to assess the feasibility of both energy and battery sharing. This research offers valuable insights to advance energy and battery sharing practices, providing a solution to enhance local energy self-consumption rates in the future.
