Solar energy plays a critical role in the transition to clean and sustainable energy sources. This study aims to examine the spatial distribution of solar energy resources across Kyushu using a 22-year dataset collected by JMA. We predicted solar radiation for 75 meteorological stations across Kyushu over the same 22-year period, using general weather parameters such as sunshine duration. By analyzing the temporal and spatial variations in solar radiation, this research provides a comprehensive overview of the solar energy potential in the region. Building on these developments, a spatiotemporal solar radiation map for Kyushu was generated. The average annual solar radiation across the region varies between 4616 and 5320 MJ/m2 per year. Moreover, the seasonal distribution of solar radiation across Kyushu shows clear patterns of variability. The east coast, particularly in areas like Miyazaki, experiences less sea-sonal fluctuation, while the west coast, including Akune and Minamata, exhibits larger differences between summer and winter. The findings will offer valuable insights into optimizing solar energy systems and inform energy policy decisions, contributing to the development of a more sustainable energy infrastructure in Kyushu and beyond.
