New Cities Based on Safe Climate and Remediation
摘要
This chapter examines the concept of creating new climate-safe cities focused on ecological remediation. It opens with a discussion on how global and groundbreaking the movement for sustainability in urban development has become. It highlights examples from countries leading this change, like the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Each of these cases offers a model for cities as resilient, regenerative places that function as ecosystems within nature. This chapter then moves on to Egypt and the important projects in building new cities based on climate change. This chapter provides an overview of how sustainable principles are being incorporated into urban planning through projects like the New Administrative Capital (NAC), Al Alamein City, Galala City, and the Toshka Project in Egypt. These cities are designed with low-energy buildings, water management systems, and green infrastructure, setting a template for new development in arid regions. As such, this conclusion of the chapter discloses an analysis related to how such cities can be sustainably and affordably built, and the projects detailed are case studies for other regions under such environmental pressures. This chapter argues that such an exercise indicates that Egypt has not only secured local sustainability through urban planning but also illustrates critical lessons for international efforts in climate-safe urbanism.
