摘要
Healthcare students must access and evaluate reliable information to support research and evidence-based practices. This chapter highlights strategies for identifying credible sources, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing peer-reviewed journals, reputable databases, and authoritative websites. It introduces the reliability pyramid, ranking sources from research papers to general websites, to guide students in selecting the most trustworthy information. Techniques for assessing source reliability include evaluating author credentials, publication dates, and the purpose of the content. This chapter categorizes information sources into primary, secondary, and tertiary. Primary sources, such as clinical trials and original research articles, provide firsthand evidence. Secondary sources analyze and interpret primary research, offering comprehensive insights, while tertiary sources summarize information, serving as introductory references. Efficient search strategies, such as using keywords, boolean operators, and quotation marks, help students refine their searches in databases like pubmed, google scholar, and medscape. Additionally, the Saudi Digital Library (SDL) provides access to a wide array of academic resources. This chapter also advises caution when using nonscientific websites, recommending evaluations of authorship, timeliness, and intent. by applying these strategies, students can enhance their research capabilities, saving time while ensuring the credibility and relevance of their sources.
