The integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into higher education and research in Portugal is gaining momentum, driven by national strategies and policies aligned with the 2030 Agenda. Portuguese Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) incorporate sustainability principles into their core functions, including teaching, research, operations, and community engagement. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of this integration process, examining the strategies, initiatives, and practices employed by HEIs to promote sustainability. It explores the alignment of national policies with the SDGs, the development of educational programs focused on sustainability competencies, and the increasing number of research projects addressing sustainability challenges. The paper also highlights the role of various stakeholders, including governmental bodies, research institutions, civil society organizations, and businesses, in supporting and driving SDG integration.
