Educational Tools to Develop Climate Literacy Among School Students: Science On a Sphere
摘要
Climate change (CC) poses a critical threat to global survival and well-being, necessitating urgent action to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to its impacts. Education emerges as a vital tool in addressing this complex challenge, empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to foster sustainability and resilience. This paper explores the implementation of Science On a Sphere® (SOS) in the OmniGlobe® version at the University of Salamanca as an augmented reality (AR) educational tool aimed at enhancing climate literacy among pre-university students. SOS leverages AR and real-time data visualizations to engage students in understanding the intricacies of CC and environmental phenomena. By integrating scientific and social science knowledge, SOS fosters critical thinking, problem solving and proactive attitudes towards sustainability. The impact of the exhibition is primarily appreciated during school visits, where students actively engage with the interactive exhibits and participate in discussions on global environmental issues. This comprehensive approach underscores the transformative potential of SOS in CC education, paving the way for informed and empowered citizens capable of meeting the environmental challenges of the future. Continued support and expansion of such initiatives is essential to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
