Technological Innovation in Industry 4.0 and 5.0 Revolution
摘要
This chapter discusses the relationship between technological innovation and the principles of the circular economy, highlighting its role in addressing global challenges and advancing sustainable development. It elaborates on how Industry 4.0, with its focus on automation, digitalization, and data-driven processes, and Industry 5.0, with its innovation-centric and human-centered transformation drive the world toward a shift from linear to circular economic models. These models prioritize waste reduction and resource optimization, facilitated by transparent supply chains enabled through smart technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT). It also refers to how it can be applied with circular economy sustainable production in conjunction with steps that could provide extra length of life to the product life cycles and lives of the products to neutralize the adverse impacts on the environment. This chapter explores the possibility of combining technological advancement with the principles of circular economy to overcome issues related to global environmental concerns. It is more generally predicated on the transformation of traditional linear forms of the economy into increasingly circular forms by transformative impacts from Industry 4.0 technologies through to those from Industry 5.0. This discussion critically examines technologies like blockchain, IoT, and AI to determine whether they reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and enhance supply chain visibility. Various research studies have been conducted implementing such resources in harmony with principles based on the circular economy regarding sustainable production, prolonged lifetime of the products, and least damaging environmental effects.
