In information theory, symbols are the main object of study. Firstly, the source symbols are mapped into channel symbol sequences X = (x1, x2, …, xn, …), and then the corresponding channel output sequences Y = (y1, y2, …, yn, …) are generated from these sequences. In a digital communication system, what the transmitter sends is not the symbol sequence X itself, but the corresponding continuous time waveform s(t,x).

摘要

In information theory, symbols are the main object of study. Firstly, the source symbols are mapped into channel symbol sequences X = (x1, x2, …, xn, …), and then the corresponding channel output sequences Y = (y1, y2, …, yn, …) are generated from these sequences. In a digital communication system, what the transmitter sends is not the symbol sequence X itself, but the corresponding continuous time waveform s(t,x).
