The purpose of this survey paper is to review various transfer learning approaches in the subject of real-time sign language translation technologies that are crucial in interpreter between the deaf or hard of hearing and the rest of population, which cannot sign. Huge development has been noted because of; AR advancements, machine learning and the IoT that have helped increase reliability and efficiency in the systems. These innovations have the potential of improving and significantly benefit the lives of deaf/HOH people by providing them with meaning of information and conversations in their first language. However, some issues are still apparent including such as matters like sign languages buy the regional borders and enhanced translation solutions. More research and development has been deemed necessary in this area with a view of making sign language translation in real-time accessible to the society.
