The Interface of Cognitive Functions in Workplace Thinking
摘要
The cognitive functions of the personnel in a workplace determine a healthy environment and the success of the organization in the corporate world. The highly competitive corporate environment expects the workforce to be well-equipped in their workplace cognition and the execution of the thinking processes involved in the particular task. The human resources need to capacitate the requisite workplace thinking skills to address the situational context with emotional and psychological competence. To accomplish the project tasks competently, they need to effectuate the thinking abilities pertaining to the situation or task demands in the workplace. Workplace thinking encompasses the subsets such as inferential thinking, productive thinking, process thinking, engaged thinking, restrictive thinking, counterfactual thinking, and flexible thinking. These thinking abilities assist in selecting the cognitive functions required for effective task execution. This chapter addresses the need for developing the requisite workplace thinking skills in order to avoid cognitive straining circumstances that negatively impacts the employee’s performance and well-being at work. Effective and appropriate application of workplace thinking skills and strategies in consonance with better cognitive function in a multitasking environment dissipates the impaired cognitive performance that occurs due to cognitive overload and its emotional strain.
