Enhancing Strategic Thinking in Tertiary Learners Through Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach
摘要
Strategic thinking involves identifying goals and a higher realm of planning and execution to attain the desired goal. In the twenty-first-century era, strategic thinking becomes an inevitable requisite for the learners to enter, thrive, and sustain successfully in the corporate world. The classroom is an effective place to train the students to think strategically and convert it into action. In the learning context, the employment of strategic thinking sharpens the learners’ awareness to encounter challenging situations and transform them into a successful and beneficial one. It includes Cognitive Academic Language Learning as an approach to teaching that focuses on developing learners’ cognitive and metacognitive strategies for learning. Teaching learners to use strategic thinking to monitor and regulate their learning helps them to face problems related to workplace situations. In this regard, this chapter addresses the need for improving the tertiary level learners’ strategic thinking. It includes English for specific business purposes, which aims to meet the learners’ specific needs and provides the opportunity to think in a particular domain. Business English courses will equip the learners with a better understanding of global business practices to succeed in today’s business environment. The study further examines the strategies applied by the learners to execute their thinking into action while attempting tasks.
