Detection and rescue robots are an important branch of current robotic research, these robots can navigate and operate in complex situations like earthquakes and building collapses. To work in the narrow spaces after disasters, there’s a growing focus on developing the moving robot with slender body and flexible manipulators. In this chapter, we’ll explore the environments where these slender search and rescue robots work. Then discuss the key design elements they require and introduce real-world examples. Additionally, we’ll cover the steps involved in designing and building these robots. We hope this chapter can offer readers practical insights and guidance, and enable them to create their own rescue robot designs.
