The Impact of Internet Use on Election Political Participation
摘要
This chapter discusses the impact of Internet usage on electoral political participation. This chapter points out that the impact of the Internet on electoral political participation in China mainly revolves around voters’ access to election news and legislative information. In the future, the following approaches can promote the influence of Internet usage on electoral political participation: conducting evaluations of members of the National People’s Congress (NPC) to establish effective oversight; creating a platform for voters to access the work performance of NPC delegates, including their names, affiliations, contact information, and email addresses, to facilitate communication between voters and NPC delegates; publishing meeting procedures online during the preparation stage of NPC sessions, allowing delegates to report their preparations; publicly sharing the proceedings of NPC sessions through online videos or written updates; and having NPC delegates disclose their performance and outcomes to the public online after the sessions.
