Politics and Politics of Turmoil
摘要
From the perspective of the study participants, Chapter 5 focuses on oppression, repression, and domination, along with stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination as the causes of the conflict. The chapter argues that stereotypes and prejudices are closely related to oppressive state policies in Syria. How stereotypes and prejudices are the product of institutional practices and the ways these practices reflect in the behavior of members of one social group to another are laid out. The chapter focuses on the implications of dominating and coercive state politics in shaping intergroup relations and people’s experiences vis-à-vis the state.
