Tackling Food Waste: Sustainable Solutions for Indian Wedding

This research studies the interaction between social norms, food wastage and traditional customs and Indian behavior at Indian Weddings. In the present scenario, the industry has witnessed a significant drift in relation to emerging trends of hiring wedding planners, use of technology and social media, in the past few decades. Such weddings result in wastage of food resources. This study adopts stakeholder interviews, and quantitative analysis to uncover behavioral patterns. The present study explores various factors responsible for substantial wastage of food. The present study reported that cultural expectations and social norms influence decisions regarding food, consumption and waste during seasonal weddings. Indian culture’s pursuit of hospitality often leads to over-planning and waste. The study aims to understand the complex behaviors that lead to food waste. The paper effectively proposes strategies to address celebration culture in India by promoting a balanced approach during planning.
