Multimedia as an Effective Tool for Teaching Design—A Contextual Case Study on Diploma Students of Animation Design at Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar

Central Institute of Technology (CIT) Kokrajhar has been established in the region of Kokrajhar in Assam state of India where the primary objective is to offer technical education to the students of Bodoland region which was used to be underprivileged earlier. Most of the students here in CIT coming from vernacular medium schools. Hence, there is a very challenging situation for both teacher and students in the teaching learning process as the medium of study is English. Here in CIT, along with other technical programs, there is an Animation Design program in the diploma level with three-year duration. This is a skill-based program to teach animation design and make students industry ready for the entry level jobs. Majority of the students who used to take admission in this program comes from vernacular medium schools. They face difficulty in understanding English since the medium of teaching is English. So, to address such a challenging situation, multimedia tools and techniques have been adopted to make teaching and learning comfortable. Use of different types of media like audio, video, and animation helps to convey more detailed information which are easy to understand even if a student doesn’t understand English. Because of its easy adaptability and comfortable understanding factors with interactive and unique contents, multimedia can be a powerful tool to enhance learning among students. This research paper aims to discuss how use of multimedia tools and techniques can make learning convenient and smooth for the students of animation design department along with discussing how the multimedia materials are used in teaching.
