Contribution of Textile Crafting Towards Skill Enhancement, Personal Growth, and Mental Well-Being of Gen Z
摘要
Engaging in crafts has been shown to have various therapeutic benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving mood and relaxation, increasing self-esteem, and providing a sense of accomplishment. In the fast-paced digital age and increasingly stressful lives, handling tactile material through textile crafts’ repetitive and rhythmic motions potentially provides a calming sensation. This primary research examines the impact of textile crafts on the mental health and well-being of textile design course participants at a nationalized fashion education institute that provides practical demonstrations, training sessions, and creative courses. This study applied a qualitative semi-structured interview approach with the Gen Z individuals who engaged in textile crafts to investigate the impact of practicing textile crafts on their mental health conditions. The emergent thematic analysis of these interviews highlighted the contribution of learning textile crafts as a therapeutic tool and the potential benefits of incorporating this approach into mental health treatment programs.
