Design is a multidisciplinary process that finds its application in different fields including biomedical device innovation. Biomedical device development incorporates knowledge of various disciplines like natural sciences, computer sciences, mechanical and chemical engineering, human behavior and socio-economic conditions, and many other knowledge areas depending upon the problem identified. Presently, various institutions in India and abroad encourage designers to take such endeavors as they feel they are expected to bring a new perspective. Though the approach broadly remains the same, there are minute differences. These become apparent when the different design-related tasks are undertaken by a designer rather than an engineer and a medical practitioner. The paper tries to uncover the various nuances related to the design of biomedical devices from the eye of an industrial designer, the various challenges faced due to these differences, and probable approaches to address them.

摘要
