Heritage education plays a crucial role in fostering the understanding and appreciation of cultural heritage among school children. Integrating multimedia into heritage education can provide a dynamic and engaging learning experience for children. Region-specific heritage education can help children to understand their cultural roots and traditions. In India, despite efforts to promote regional heritage education, there is a lack of region-specific cultural content in school curriculum. This paper proposes a multimedia design framework for creating a mobile application, “Cultural Treasure 0.1”, which combines multimedia and game elements to improve learning about Assam’s heritage. The app aims to deepen understanding and appreciation of Assam’s historical significance through interactive features. A survey was conducted among 40 school children, split into two groups of 20 each, to evaluate an application’s effectiveness. One group used traditional teaching while the other used the multimedia application. Results showed that students using the multimedia application performed better. Heritage education using multimedia edutainment platform can encourage children to develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and respect for diverse cultures. It can also enhances social and emotional intelligence by fostering inclusivity and promoting cultural integrity.
