As working mothers around the world strive to balance the demands of their careers with the joys and responsibilities of motherhood, the challenges faced by them in returning to work post maternity leave, particularly psychosocial challenges, remain unexplored. This study, through primary and secondary research tools, identifies the personal, societal, organizational, and several other challenges faced by working mothers in balancing work and family life in an Indian nuclear household during the early months post maternity leave. The insights and observations obtained have been mapped and analysed using tools like mental models and empathy maps, which lead to the identification of the key problem areas. Ideation, conceptualization, prototyping, and testing of several possible design solutions was carried out, which aimed to bridge the gaps identified, thus resulting in a holistic solution called ‘ParentPal’. The solution centres on the development of an interactive communicative device tailored to the unique needs of working mothers and their children. It seeks to enhance connection and communication during the pivotal stages of child development, ranging from 4 months to 2 years. This study has outlined significant observations about the lesser talked-about challenges faced by working mothers, and represents a promising solution, empowering mothers to nurture their children's development while pursuing their careers.

摘要
