Voice assistants provide new options to people, including those not interested in or capable of using traditional computing devices such as personal computers, smartphones, and feature phones. This study aims to understand how Gen X citizens in urban India perceive voice assistants. To address this query, 17 Gen X people aged 55–65 were surveyed using quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. The insights highlighted the reliability of information with this new interaction medium. However, capabilities such as watching movies, listening to music, or prayers on smartphones and feature phones were considered the primary use of voice-based assistants. This paper discusses the issues of new technology extending to different user groups. Also, it proposes the scope of design implications for voice-user interfaces for Gen X citizens in urban India.
