Exposure to poultry farm workers in poultry houses may cause various risks. A study was performed to assess health issues among poultry farm workers in order to redesign the poultry house. Details of the poultry farms, such as type, size, ventilation, bird capacity, and number of workers, were collected. The length and breadth of the poultry farm vary from 36 to 76 and 20 to 40 m, respectively. A questionnaire was designed, and the survey was performed among 35 workers from 15 poultry farms in the Lakhimpur district of Assam. The questionnaire consists of three sections, namely demographic, house details, and health issues. It is observed that workers of 12 farms resided in an adjacent room without partitions in one corner of the poultry house along with the poultry birds. There is only one door in the poultry house. About 88.5 and 85.7% of workers responded that flies and odour were major issues in the poultry house, respectively. About 74.3, 62.9, 57.1, and 34.3% of workers responded that temperature, allergies, noise, and hen lice are issues in the poultry house, respectively. The layout of the poultry house was redesigned for better worker health. An adjacent room in a poultry house with a ceiling was designed with a 2 m high wall for the workers. Ventilation systems were also designed.
