Operational Resilience: Integrating Its Adaptability and Transformability in Indian Apparel Manufacturing Industry
摘要
Apparel industry today, like all other industries is experiencing myriads of challenges due to the multiplicity of disruptions. Organizations and their supply chains need potential to handle emerging threats, adapt quickly in times of crisis and turbulence, and satisfy stakeholders’ requirements in a consistent fashion. When a disruption occurs, many business assumptions are put to the test. It has been seen that the challenges to a firm’s resilience are real, ever-changing, and can easily extend beyond expectations, in both severity and frequency. It is imperative that the apparel industry identifies the vulnerabilities and develops operational resilience capabilities to reduce the probability and impact of foreseen or unforeseen disruptive events. Failure to develop resilience at the right time may be a cause of huge financial loss for the whole value chain which may ultimately erode sustainability in the long run. This document discusses the need for Operational Resilience in Indian apparel manufacturing organizations and a sample framework that may give some insights on the areas to focus upon to develop the same. Various frameworks are being employed across industries which are either at the primary stage or mature stage to build operational resilience, and its engagement to ensure that disruptions can be effectively managed. There are many cross-industry regulations, guidance, and standards in making to explore, which might help to analyze the gaps and design a framework to support apparel manufacturers to protect their critical operations from any future disruptions.
