Promoting Assam’s Cultural Heritage Through Educational Textbooks Using Augmented Reality and Photogrammetry: A Unity and Vuforia Approach
摘要
Assam, a state in northeastern India, is famous for its rich cultural heritage, which includes traditions, arts, crafts, and historical sites. However, there is growing concern regarding the understanding of this history, particularly among the younger generation. This study proposes a novel approach to revive Assam’s cultural heritage by using Augmented Reality (AR) and Photogrammetry in educational resources, specifically school textbooks. Unity, a game development platform, and Vuforia SDK, a leading AR development kit, were utilized to create immersive and engaging learning experiences. To begin, 3D models are created by employing photogrammetry to capture and optimize authentic Assamese artefacts, monuments, and cultural sites, followed by mesh and model cleaning with Blender. These models are then carefully integrated into educational textbooks using AR technology, allowing smooth interaction with the physical environment. Students can use smartphones or tablets to see these AR-enhanced textbooks and explore additional information, visuals, and interactive elements related to Assam’s cultural heritage. By integrating AR and Photogrammetry into educational materials, this strategy tries to bridge the gap between conventional learning methods and modern technologies, making education more engaging and relevant for students. Furthermore, this creative use of technology has the potential to change the way cultural heritage is taught and viewed, encouraging students to have a better knowledge and appreciation for Assam’s rich cultural tradition. This method can serve as an inspiration for other regions seeking to preserve and promote their cultural history through the use of technology.
