Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face difficulties in expressing and interpreting emotions around different spaces. This research addresses this issue by introducing multi-sensory interventions to a safe, bounded space for a 17-year-old moderately autistic individual using dynamic elements and non-verbal methods. The study focuses on leveraging sensory stimuli in transition spaces within the confines of his living space by addressing any frustrations, triggers, or stressors. Through a detailed interview with the boy's mother, the interventions utilize guidelines for autism, architectural constraints, and a controlled observational framework to understand the subject's behavior responses and sensory subtypes. This helps set the foundation for any changes in the interior design of the said space. The main objective is to create a sensory-friendly environment within the bounded space of the house, aligning with architectural thesis and other longitudinal case studies. Through the meticulous daily timetable and routine, the research addresses the specific needs of the autistic child at various times of the day while changing different activities, ensuring a personalized approach to add to his sensory comfort and help his mother’s frustrations. It contributes to the spatial knowledge in autism-informed design for daily living by presenting a detailed single case study that observes and notes the application of these architectural interventions. Using a six-day matrix for sensory responses for the individual, this research shows three detailed interventions with visual, aural, and textural stimuli that can be extrapolated to benefit a broader spectrum of individuals with different needs. The limitation was faced while making changes to a fully furnished house while keeping in check the needs of other family members, such as his sister. The findings seek to adapt and develop inclusive design spaces that prioritize the well-being of those on the autism spectrum within spaces.
