Weaving crafts were utilized in prehistoric shelters and homes, but their current usage are primarily limited to the handicraft sector. They are rarely integrated into modern places, despite civilizational archetypes and the potential to do so. To overcome this gap, the research focusses on researching Kerala weaving crafts to discover their potential for cross-disciplinary collaboration with space-making aspects. Kerala offers a landscape of traditional crafts deeply embedded in its cultural heritage. Integrating these centuries-old skills with a contemporary design can infuse spaces with culture and sustainability. This honors Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and builds a stronger connection between the past and the present, resulting in culturally rich spaces. The research is deductive and exploratory, case-study based, and employs a mixed-method approach. The bamboo weaving craft of Kerala is thoroughly decoded based on various aspects like knowledge, skill, tools, technique, and culture. In-depth conversations with expert craftspersons will provide valuable insights and firsthand experiences. Furthermore, attentive observations will allow a better understanding of the obstacles inherent in the weaving process. The research findings will include an analysis of weaving crafts based on tangible factors like scalability and adaptability and intangible factors concerning space, such as societal dynamics and identity. Finally, the research demonstrates the possibility of integrating Kerala’s traditional crafts in contemporary spaces with the help of a design.
