This chapter discusses outdoor play in preschools and the measures taken by the Singapore government to support it. The chapter begins with a brief review of the literature on the benefits of outdoor play and its place in the preschool curriculum in Singapore. This is followed by an examination of the affordances and challenges associated with implementing outdoor play in a highly urbanised and competitive social context. The chapter then discusses the guidelines, policies and regulations established by the government to support outdoor play. Finally, the chapter provides a snapshot of the progress made so far and offers recommendations for future action.
