Local Eco-Innovation: Contributions to the Debate on Sustainable Innovation
摘要
The concept of innovation commonly accepted in business, academic and public policy circles, refers to a new or improved process, product or service that materializes in the market. However, many of these innovations have caused significant disruptions to ecosystems in the medium and long term. We therefore wonder whether is it possible to carry out innovations that reduce or avoid negative effects on the environment? Recently, a few studies have shown different forms of innovation with dimensions of social and environmental responsibility. Named with different concepts, these innovations diverge from the product and process ones referred to industrial companies, which we will call conventional, because profit is not the main motivation for developing something new, and in many cases, it is a socio-cultural dimension that gives rise to the novelty. In this chapter we propose to define and discuss the concept of local eco-innovations, and compare it with other notions that characterize innovations that bear the stamp of collective learning, care for the environment, low technological content, traditional knowledge, among other dimensions.
