Keratoprosthesis (Kpro) implantation involves the replacement of a damaged cornea with an artificial optical prosthesis. It is considered the last resort for visual rehabilitation in bilateral end-stage corneal and ocular surface disease and is reserved for eyes not amenable to conventional penetrating keratoplasty. These include eyes with repeated graft failures, limbal stem cell deficiency, cicatrizing ocular surface disease with or without severe dryness, and/or ocular surface keratinization [1].
