Agrodiversity, encompasses the variety of crops used by farmers and their methods of utilizing natural environmental diversity, is key to sustainable agriculture. However, the trend toward agricultural specialization and larger scales of farming driven by improved infrastructure and markets can endanger ecosystem functions. In India, pursuing high land productivity through industrial farming has led to environmental damage without a significant increase in agricultural output. Hence, India must focus on increasing farm productivity while enhancing sustainability and resilience to climate change. Therefore, conserving crop diversity is vital for tackling climate change, sustaining natural resources, ensuring food and fuel security, and preserving ecosystem services. To address these global challenges, the agricultural sector must consider economic, environmental, and social sustainability dimensions. Moreover, strategies should focus on optimizing waste and natural resources to achieve overall agricultural sustainability.
