A Comparative Approach for Blockchain-Based Verification for Secure File Sharing

The concept of the project “Blockchain-Based Verification for Secure File Sharing” discusses the possibility of adding blockchain into file-sharing solutions to increase protection for data. The proposed approach attempts to design a reliable and unalterable process for the verification of depths shared within the framework of the project by taking advantage of the decentralization of the blockchain and the IPFS. In a distributed file system files are managed based on IPFS protocol, hypermedia, and the decentralized peer-to-peer network. The system maintains the integrity of a file and checks the authenticity of the sender and the recipient. The system also prevents unauthorized users from accessing the files and the ability to manipulate the information being shared while at the same time promoting confidentiality, integrity, and accountability in the sharing of files. The project enhances the sound and efficient ways of sharing of files in today’s society. In traditional file sharing, there is no method of authentication to check on the correctness of a data that a user shares. This jeopardizes users as they have no other option but to use centralized systems and or third parties some of which have previously been hacked and manipulated the users personal data. Due to these problems, a decentralized and secure file-sharing system solution is being proposed using both IPFS and blockchain in this project. The work also entail comparison of different protocols including Storj, IPFS, BitTorrent, DAT, and FreeNet.
