Design of Low Power ALU Using FinFET-Based Adiabatic Logic
摘要
In the current era, leakage power is one of the primary parameters while designing any integrated circuit. We know every microprocessor is designed using an ALU, and nowadays, ALU is becoming more and more complicated and much smaller in size to provide efficient potent computer systems. ALU performs arithmetic and logical operations. In this paper, we have considered arithmetic operations like add, subtract, comparator, and logical operations like XOR, NOT, AND, and OR. We have designed all the components using adiabatic logic, i.e., PFAL, since it provides energy recovery. FinFET has low threshold voltages compared to CMOS and it is even possible to run at low operating voltages while designing ALU using FinFET-based adiabatic logic. This makes us to provide reduced power consumption and also higher speed performance. We compared the power results of ALU using FinFET-based PFAL and also by conventional CMOS, and the results show that there is an improvement in the results of power consumption for an ALU designed using PFAL.
