Building Resilient Food Systems in Cape Town, South Africa
摘要
The food systems in Cape Town are complex and governed in a fragmented way, even though food is acknowledged as a constitutional right. The City has identified more than 40 interconnected actions related to food systems, covering areas such as informal trade, markets, environmental health, spatial planning, urban health, and particularly, resilience. Recent events like drought, COVID-19, load shedding, and minibus taxi strikes have highlighted the critical need for a comprehensive food systems approach that recognizes the growing frequency and impact of such disruptions on food access, especially for vulnerable communities. The City's approach takes a holistic view, aiming to integrate and leverage existing responsibilities through collaborative partnerships within the municipality and with external organizations. This strategy seeks to address food system challenges by promoting resilience, enhancing coordination across various sectors and stakeholders, and fostering a more cohesive response to future shocks and pressures while improving long-term sustainability and equity. The initiative is related to SDGs 2, 3, 11, and 12.
