Reflections on Being an Ethnographic Researcher in Catholic Schools
摘要
This chapter explores the richness of ethnographic research for Catholic education and schooling. There are three parts, first, Ann Casson explores how the experience of teaching religious education in Catholic secondary schools and the work of the Warwick Religious Education project motivated her desire to research students lived or everyday religion in Catholic schools. The second and main section explores the value of an ethnographic approach to research in Catholic schools, looking at how we can attentively listen to students. It considers the challenges of doing research as a Catholic educator within the framework of a Catholic institution. The final section briefly considers the critical themes identified in a sifting of the data to look for patterns which could illuminate an understanding of the lived Catholicism of students in Catholic schools.
