Photocatalytic and Photoluminescence Actions of CuS Decorated MoS2 Nanoparticles
摘要
Photocatalyst-assisted water splitting has great significance in electricity production. Here, CuS decorated MoS2 nanoparticles (CuS-MoS2) was used as photocatalyst and water splitting was done in home-made electrolysis cell. CuS-MoS2 was hydrothermally synthesized. X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS) were done to analyze the material properties. XRD have shown peaks corresponds to both CuS and MoS2. DLS displayed most of the particle size below 10 nm. Tauc plot derived from UV–Visible absorption spectra manifested the direct bandgap energy of sample as 3.68 eV. From home-made electrolysis cell, photocurrents were noted. Sample coated on cathode and mixed in electrolyte were the two methods adopted to study its effect on water splitting. Photocurrent was linearly increasing with time in both cases. Sample coated on cathode have noted greater current than the other one. 686 µA of current was measured in 3 min of time. Photoluminescence (PL) behavior of sample was also investigated here. Sample exhibited both up-conversion and down-conversion PL for different excitation energies. Hence, CuS-MoS2 is a stunning nanomaterial with high photocatalytic action and PL.
