Development of Tight Reservoirs by Natural Gas Flooding Under Different Injection and Production Modes: A Case Study in Ordos Basin

China has abundant tight oil reserves, but depletion development of most tight reservoirs is poor, so it is urgent to supplement formation energy. Some field trials indicate that gas injection development can enhance oil recovery of tight oil reservoir, while oilfield trials of natural gas injection in tight oil reservoir is less. In this paper, for Changqing tight oil reservoir, the starting pressure gradient and pressure maintenance level experiment are conducted to determine suitable well spacing and pressure maintenance level for the target block. Besides, combined with numerical simulation method, various injection-production modes (continuous gas injection, periodic gas injection and periodic injection-production) are compared to investigate reasonable development method of natural gas flooding in tight oil reservoir. The research results indicate that the starting pressure gradient of gas flooding is smaller than that of water flooding, suitable well spacing for gas injection development in target block is 405 ~ 450 m, and the average formation pressure should maintain at about 90%. The injection-production parameters are optimized by considering the evaluation indexes such as oil recovery, formation pressure, and oil change ratio. Under the same conditions of total gas injection, periodic injection-production has the advantages of higher oil recovery, better formation pressure, and weaker gas channeling, but it has the disadvantage of lower oil recovery in the early development. The actual reservoir development can combine early-stage advantages of continuous gas injection and periodic gas injection to design gas injection development, which can provide guidance for tight oil trials in Ordos Basin.
