Analysis of Low Production of Gas Wells in Sulige Gas Field and Technical Measures to Enhance Production and Efficiency—A Case of Eastern Sulige Gas Field

Sulige Gas Field is the largest tight gas field in China, and according to the plan, it will continue stable production at the scale of 300 × 1012 m3/a until 2032. As the development of the gas field enters the middle and late stages, the number of straight/directional wells with daily gas production less than 5000 × 104 m3/d and horizontal wells less than 10,000 × 104 m3/d increases year by year, and at present 60% of the low-producing wells contribute to only 20% of the production, and at the same time, the reservoir deterioration, insufficient space for planar production, and the effect of some of the low-producing wells after the measures are obvious, so the effective and fine management of low-producing wells have become the key to guarantee the stable production of the gas field. As a deep development area, the eastern Sulige Gas Field has a large reserve base, large differences in reservoir characteristics, many types of gas reservoirs, and more than 2600 wells in production, and the management countermeasures of low-producing wells are of strong reference significance to the Sulige Gas Field. By fully utilizing the dynamic, static and engineering data, focusing on the main type of wells, and adopting the means of classification evaluation of the reservoirs and the evaluation of the gas–water law, the main reasons for the low-producing wells are clarified, and practical and feasible management countermeasures are also put forward. The main reasons for low production of gas wells are clarified and practical countermeasures are proposed. The results of the study show that: (1) Main reason for low production is water production in gas wells, which accounts for 36% of the total, and is divided into three types, namely, initial water production, mid and late-stage accumulation of liquid, and full-stage water production; (2) Through the classification and rapid evaluation of the gas wells, a three-tier management system of “main controlling factors and measures for digging up potentials and timing of interventions” has been constructed; (3) Gas wells with poor reservoir conditions and rapid natural decline are treated by checking the layer and filling the holes. Through comparison, it is more effective to use layer checking and hole filling for gas wells with poor reservoir conditions and rapid natural decline, with an average gas increase of 1.18 million cubic meters; and it is more effective to use inter-opening and bubble drainage for gas wells with problems such as water production and fluid accumulation, with an average gas increase of 0.86 million cubic meters. It is concluded that by establishing the process of judging low-producing wells and the technology system of tapping the benefits, the Estimated Ultimate Recovery (EUR) of gas wells can be increased by 15%, which will provide effective support for the long-term stable production of Sulige Gas Field in the scale of 300 × 108 m3/a.
