Cost-Effective and Efficient High-Gain DC–DC Converter for Electric Vehicle Application

This paper presents a novel wide-range unidirectional DC–DC converter tailored specifically for Electric Vehicle (EV) application, focusing on vehicle-to-grid (V2G) utilization. Existing converters suffer from voltage ripples, leading to compromised system efficiency, reduced component reliability, and increased costs. This research addresses the gap in V2G discharging for EVs by proposing an efficient and reliable DC–DC converter that facilitates optimal power flow between the EV battery and the electric grid. The proposed converter introduces a significant modification by replacing MOSFET switches with diodes, resulting in a cost-effective and simplified design, along with component value variation for ripple reduction. Moreover, the converter maintains a common electrical ground between input and output terminals, yielding several advantages such as reduced voltage stress on components, high utilization factor, and improved overall efficiency. These innovative modifications offer substantial benefits to the converter system. This research provides a comprehensive analysis of the proposed converter’s performance, including experimental results validating its efficiency and effectiveness. The results highlight the significant advancements achieved through this design modification, making it a promising solution for EV-based V2G applications.
