In the Epilogue of the book, I discuss clinicians’ imaginaries about the future of egg donation. Aware of the fragility inherent in the egg donation process and the challenges involved in stabilizing eggs and women, clinicians impatiently anticipate a time when technoscientific innovations—such as the application of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to create ova—will effectively remove egg donors from fertility treatments. In this context, the debates around egg donation—such as the poor information provided to donors, the anonymous framework of gamete donation, or the precarious conditions underpinning their availability—are often regarded as irrelevant, as they are presumed to be temporary issues that will soon be resolved by the promise of a more appealing reproductive future: a world without donors.
