Conventional dyeing requires significant water and energy consumption and produces contaminated water and other toxic byproducts that deteriorate the environment and public health. To mitigate those issues, the textile industries are concentrating more on alternative green technologies. Air dyeing technology is a green and water-saving technique that uses an airstream rather than a dye bath to convey and color the fabric. Compared to traditional fabric dyeing methods, air dyeing saves 60% water, 50% energy, 40% chemicals, 25% process time, and 10% dyestuff. The air dyeing technology is 25% more economical and colors the fabric with up to 45% elastane content. Dope dyeing incorporates color into the molten polymer during the melt-spinning process before fiber creation, which is another innovative, water-saving approach to dyeing synthetic and regenerated cellulose fiber. Both air-dyed and dope-dyed textiles provide excellent color fastness and uniformity, a smooth and luxurious feel, and less damage during processing. The basic concepts of these technologies, the principles of dyeing, the machinery used and their development, the process of dyeing various fibers, their specific benefits, and the present condition of these technologies are all highlighted here.
