Vaping Trends: Empowering Healthcare Professionals to Address Emerging Risks
摘要
Smoking cigarettes has been identified as detrimental to individuals’ health, especially among individuals who are high in co-morbidity. Recent trends have indicated that individuals who smoke have switched to vaping, which is perceived as a better option and less harmful in content. Vape products or e-cigarettes (e-cigs) often contain high levels of nicotine and other harmful chemicals that are still being examined by researchers and healthcare professionals. Vaping and purchasing vape products, as well as accessories have been prevalent among young adults and minors. This chapter provides a background on vaping trends, vape products and e-cigs, as well as addresses the lack of knowledge and awareness among healthcare professionals concerning the long-term effects of vaping and the use of e-cigs. This chapter also highlights the different regulations in various countries and the need for better laws to regulate vaping, especially among young adults. By keeping up with the latest research, healthcare professionals can better educate and counsel their patients on the risks of vaping.
