Bibliometric Analysis of E-cigarette’s Emissions

Electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) have been commercially introduced in recent years as an alternative to conventional cigarette smoking. Due to the high concern for human health, scientific production dealing with e-cigs is constantly increasing. Bibliometric analysis can be used to reveal the trends of scientific research. The aim of this chapter is to investigate and analyze the trends in the production of scientific documents on e-cig’s emissions by conducting a bibliometric analysis. Scopus is used for this work and the time span of the research starts from 2002 and goes up to 2023. The trends concerning the Year, Source type, Country, Document type, Subject Area, Institutions, and Number of citations are analyzed. An analysis of keywords of the published documents was also performed. The number of publications constantly increases, with a probable saturation during the last few years. The majority of the published documents are articles in journals. The most productive journal is Nicotine and Tobacco Research, while the most productive institution is the University of California, San Francisco. Also, the United States and the UK are at the top in this research, considering the total number of publications and the predominant subject area is Medicine, followed by Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics, and Environmental Science. The keywords with the highest frequency are associated with the categories of humans, studies and methods, devices and chemical compounds, and smoking habits.
