Today’s diverse learning environments need flexibility and receptiveness to inculcate personalization in their behavior. Adaptable rubrics have gained popularity because of their potential to provide the required adaptability and dynamic feedback generation in those environments. Adaptable rubrics are the modification to the traditional static rubrics based on the different needs, interests, and capabilities of learner. They facilitate in providing personalized learning paths to accommodate varying competency levels of learners, ultimately promoting profound engagement. This paper is an extensive review on the development and implementation of adaptable rubrics in the current evolving educational establishments. These scenarios involve individualized and competency-based learning models, specifically in virtual learning modes, and continuous dynamic feedback which cannot be addressed by traditional assessment tools and procedures. This paper critically explores the theoretical foundations and impact of adaptable rubrics on the learning and teaching outcomes in various domains. It also addresses the primary challenges and opportunities in the designing and implementation of adaptable rubrics such as consistency, scalability, standardization, and educator readiness. This study offers insights to the educators, academicians, and researchers to leverage this dynamic tool to transform assessment process and instructional practices by collecting and analyzing existing work and studies in this field. The observations and comprehensive review reveal the influential role of adaptable rubrics in fostering personalized learning experiences and how they contribute to the attainment of course outcomes and the broad learning goals of twenty-first-century education system.
