A Bibliometric Analysis of the Literature on Construction Supply Chain Management

Integration of supply chains is one of the most important parameters in managing a transportation infrastructure project. While the concept of supply chain’ has been around for some time, its specific applications in huge projects such as transportation infrastructure projects are still not well understood. Therefore, this study attempts to understand the evolution of supply chain management in construction and has collected data from the literature available in this context. This paper provides a bibliometric analysis of construction supply chain management (CSCM) from 1998 to 2021. About 546 publications were retrieved from the Scopus database for this study. The yearly distribution of articles published, and their subject area is analyzed from the results of the bibliometric analysis of the data. Network diagrams of the most cited, co-cited, and bibliographically coupled countries, organizations, authors, sources, and documents are developed using VOS viewer. The study concludes that the greatest number of papers will be published in 2020, and innovations in this area have increased steadily since 2016, showing positive linear growth. Country statistics show that the Netherlands has the highest average citation, whereas countries like UK and China have the highest number of publications. Overlay visualization of co-occurred keywords displays the evolution of keywords over time, from “procurement and performance assessment” in 2010, to “cost reduction and decision-making” in 2012, to “barriers and risk management” in 2016. This paper not only emphasizes its importance but also urges scholars and practitioners to delve deeper. The paper serves as a call to action, motivating stakeholders to stay abreast of developments and contribute to the growth of CSCM research.
