Effect of Particle Size Distribution (PSD) on Binary Cement—Studies on Fly-Ash-Based Cement
摘要
The uncontrolled population outburst across the globe in this millennium has led to the growing need for sophisticated infrastructure developments like housing, commercial buildings, bridges, highways, tunnels, aviation sector, railways, dams, irrigation structures, etc. This in turn has escalated the demand for cement and its allied products. To cope with the increasing demand, exhaustive research has been carried out by the academicians to appendage pure ordinary Portland cement with natural and artificial pozzolans, Industrial by-product wastes as supplements to preserve the natural raw resources for posterity, reduce the carbon-dioxide emissions released in the atmosphere by cement manufacturing industries and in-turn save the planet and its living organisms from weakening of ozone layer which leads to climatic change and other health hazards. Particle Size Distribution (PSD) of pure ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and its supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) in binary and ternary form plays a pivotal role in enhancing the overall performance of the resultant cement by affecting its micro-structure, packing density, water demand, rate of hydration, setting times, strength, permeability, workability, and durability. This paper focusses on the effect of particle size distribution (PSD) on certain mechanical properties.
