Shear Buckling Strength of Steel Girder with Trapezoidal Corrugated Web
摘要
Corrugated plates are used to get sufficient out-of-plane stiffness and shear buckling resistance without using stiffeners. Due to its favorable properties, it is used as a web of plate girders, roofs, columns, and walls. Advantages of corrugated webs include enormous weight savings, better shear strength, and patch-loading resistance with improved fatigue behavior. Corrugated plates carry only shear force when used as webs in plate girders, and it may fail in shear buckling or yielding. The influence of different geometric parameters is important for the analysis of the shear strength of the corrugated web and its design. Many empirical formulae exist in literature to determine the shear strength of corrugated webs. In this research, a comparative study has been carried out to find the shear buckling strength using different formulae proposed by different researchers. Design shear strength has been found using ANSYS software which closely satisfies the buckling curve recommended by Moon. The effect of different geometric parameters on elastic critical shear buckling strength is carried out, and an attempt has been made to develop design charts to determine the shear buckling strength of the corrugated plate girder.
