Effective Traffic Management Plan for Efficient Operation of SITRA Intersection in Coimbatore City
摘要
To ensure the safe and timely movement of people on roads, traffic engineering employs engineering methodologies and procedures. Traffic flow, which is closely related to traffic features, is necessary for the safe and timely movement of people. Volume, speed, and density are the three key elements of traffic flow. The present road infrastructure cannot meet the requirements of the current cities in the absence of proper planning and traffic management. Due to the alteration in the economic circumstances of middle-class households during the past two decades, both pedestrian and vehicular traffic have expanded dramatically. The present study examines the traffic patterns at a particular key intersection in Coimbatore city. The investigation in this paper focused on traffic volume and used primary traffic flow studies at the SITRA intersection in Coimbatore city. Using manual approaches, traffic flow is investigated. Spot speed studies, accident surveys, and origin–destination surveys were all done in order to better understand the current state of the intersection’s traffic flow. An effort has been made to comprehend the traffic patterns at various times using the data collected. The features of the traffic flow have a role in the intersection’s traffic control. The findings of the current study are useful in both managing traffic at the intersection and recommending some corrective actions to increase the intersection’s traffic safety.
